Sections of the programme and course numbers
The course programme of the Volkshochschule is structured according to the different departments. You will find all courses offered by the Volkshochschule in the respective section of the programme (see table of contents). The courses are numbered according to the different departments and topics.
Who may participate?
Anyone at least 15 years of age and who has registered correctly is entitled to participate in courses at the Volkshochschule. Younger participants can only be admitted in duly justified cases.
The admission to specific courses can be subject to requirements such as the attendance of other courses. In some courses, the number of participants can be limited given the nature of the course or the capacity of the Volkshochschule. Any registration for and participation in courses at the Volkshochschule is regulated under private law; the General Terms and Conditions (fees, house rules etc.) are part of the contract.
How to register for courses at the Volkshochschule
You should register for a course at least five days before the course starts. The Volkshochschule does not accept provisional registrations. It is NOT possible to attend individual course sessions as so-called “trial lessons”.
You may register for as many courses as you like. It is possible to register for and attend a course after it has started (please contact the respective department for information and advice). The Volkshochschule reserves its right to postpone, relocate and cancel courses. If you are pregnant, suffer from back or knee injuries or other physical impediments you should consult a doctor before attending courses offered by the Department of Health, Sports and Nutrition.
The registration for and participation in field trips and excursions are subject to special regulations (see General Terms and Conditions for Field Trips and Excursions).
Fees and payment
Fees (except those for lectures, courses in alphabetization and low-level German courses) include a registration / deregistration fee of € 6.10 (on which no discount can be given). The costs for material used in class (such as course books, photocopies etc.) are not included in the fees; in some cases (e.g. photocopies), such additional costs may be agreed upon with the course instructor. The fee for each individual ccourse at the Volkshochschule is listed in the course programme. The participant or legal guardian is liable for paying the fee.
Fees for courses are due by the 2nd day of instruction and a week in advance in case of weekend seminars respectively (see above). The Volkshochschule does not issue invoices except upon request (for companies). If you authorize the Volkshochschule to charge your account, fees will be withdrawn from your account when due, i.e. when it is clear that enough participants have registered for the course and that it will take place. If you do not authorize the Volkshochschule to charge your account, please transfer the fee(s) when due to the following account: Sparkasse KölnBonn, account no. 15 016, bank code 370 501 98. Please indicate the code “4015.5453.0075”, the course number(s) and your full name (IBAN: DE78 370 501 98 00000 15 016, BIC: COLSDE33).
In general, the payment process runs more smoothly if you authorize the Volkhochschule to withdraw the fees directly from your account as you benefit from the following aspects:
Please notify the Volkshochschule of any changes to your account information immediately as long as the fees have not been charged to your account. Only one bank account can be entered per person (the VHS collects account information on a person-related basis and not for each course individually). Please make sure to be thorough in providing your account information since banks demand large fees for false or incorrect account data, and these will have to be repaid to the Volkshochschule by the respective participant.
Payments in cash cannot be accepted except for lectures.
Additional costs (e.g. course materials, travel expenses, costs for board and lodging, room and board, costs for rent to a third party etc.) are allocated to the participants (without discounts or exemptions). A remission of fees and charges cannot be granted.
Discounts
The following groups are entitled to a 30 percent discount (please submit a suitable proof (in person or by letter, fax or email) when you register for a course):
A proof of discount entitlement submitted after the start of the course cannot be accepted.
Discounts or a remission of fees and charges cannot be granted with respect to the registration fee of € 6.10 and the registration for and participation om field trips and excursions.
Deregistration and refunding
Participants can deregister from a course (in the case of regular evening classes with more than 10 sessions) before the 2nd day of instruction in writing to the Volkshochschule. In the case of one-day, weekend and one-week intensive seminars as well as regular evening classes with fewer than 10, a deregistration is only possible up to one week in advance, in the case of courses offered in the section “Creative Design”, a deregistration is only possible up to ten days before the course starts (please note the specific deadlines announced in the course programme). In the case of so-called “Bildungsurlaube” (one-week seminars for participants entitled to educational leave), a deregistration can only be accepted up to a fortnight before the class starts. Deregistration at a later date does not relieve the participant of their obligation to pay the fee unless the Volkshochschule is accountable for the reasons for deregistration. The registration fee of € 6.10 must be paid regardless.
Notifying the instructor does not constitute a formal deregistration from the course and will not be accepted. Not attending class is also an invalid method to deregister from a course. Irregular participation or dropping out of class still require that participants pay the entire course fee.
If someone deregisters from a course in writing to the Volkshochschule in due time, if a registration for a course must rejected or if a course must be cancelled, the Volkshochschule will not charge any fees and fees already withdrawn will be refunded respectively.
The deregistration from and refunding of fees for field trips and excursions are subject to special regulations (see General Terms and Conditions for Field Trips and Excursions).
Data protection
The Volkshochschule collects and works with personal information in order to fulfil task in accordance with statutory and financial regulations. The legal basis for these tasks are paragraphs 12 and 13 of the Datenschutzgesetz NRW (Data Protection Act North-Rhine Westphalia).
Course registration can only be processed if first and last name and complete address are provided.
Answers to all other questions are voluntary. It is important to provide a telephone number in case a course session must be cancelled and participants need to be informed by the Volkshochschule. The data is processed and stored electronicallyand will be made anonymous when passed on to third parties.
Certificate of attendance
Upon request, the Volkshochschule and the different departments respectively issue certificates of attendance for courses which took place during the last ten years. To be entitled to such a certificate, participants must fulfil the following requirements: full payment of the course fee as well as regular participation in the course (at least 80 percent).
House rules
The house rules for each of the venues used by the Volkshochschule are binding for all participants. The Volkshochschule would particularly like to ask participants to refrain from smoking on the premises and in classrooms and keep the rooms clean.
Parking spaces at the venues are only to be used during attendance of the course! Please take into account that parking spaces are limited and thus cannot be guaranteed.
Liability
The City of Bonn cannot be held liable for any damage to persons or property that occurs during participation in courses at the Volkshochschule unless it is due to gross negligence on the part of municipal employees.
