Have you ever wondered about life's big questions? In this conversation class, you explore some of the basic ideas in philosophy and discuss them in English. We look at key topics such as free will, the meaning of life and death, skepticism and “can we know anything?”, other minds and the mind-body problem, the role of words and language, and the ethics of right and wrong. The focus is on speaking, group discussion and sharing thoughts. Vocabulary and grammar are addressed when they are relevant for communication and understanding.
Requirements: six years of English or better.
Please don't buy the textbook before the first class: Thomas Nagel: What Does it All Mean? A Very Short Introduction to Philosophy, ISBN 9780195052923, Oxford University Press
