Carol Stocks grew up in Liverpool, England. While serving with the Women’s Royal Air Force near London, she was posted to work at NATO HQ in Germany. She subsequently returned to civilian life to live and work in Denmark. Back in Germany since the mid-1980s, she initially worked at international organisations in Bonn and in 2000 she set up as a freelance translator and proofreader, working for the German government, research institutes and business. Alongside her freelance work, Carol studied Human Geography (BSc.) with the Open University and learned to play the violin. She speaks English, German, Danish and plans to revisit Spanish. Her hobbies include dancing Argentine Tango, travel, photography, creative writing, concerts and cooking. Carol loves meeting new people, learning about their life and language journeys – she says learning languages opens doors, allowing us to explore other worlds and ways of life.
